The type of violence (sport, cartoon, realistic..) definitely makes a difference on the impact of the viewer. These categories all have different audiences and different age groups. Cartoons make it seem that there is lacking of consequences for violence. Children watching these programs will see that the violence is funny and think that there is no harm in acting this way. When there is extreme violence in sports consequences are usually shown, such as the violent team getting penalties or an individual getting thrown out of a game completely. Audiences who watch realistic violence over long periods of time will be less sensitive to what they see. This makes violence seem normal in television, movies, and even everyday life.

Does the “type” of violence (e.g., cartoon, sport, realistic) make a difference in the impact it has on the viewer?

I think you make an interesting point. When violence happens in sports there are penalties but in cartoons they want that slapstick comedy. Its the children seeing this violence on the screen in cartoons. I personally think if they are going to show the violence in cartoons, there should be some consquence show that children know its NOT okay.
返信削除I have watched very violencial cartoon before.
返信削除The caracters are very cute but what they are doing is so violencial and I think it is bad for children.
I dont konw how we can make children aboid to wacth that programs.
Cartoons always seem to be able to get away with a lot more.
返信削除Actually, violentical cartoon affect the children's action. We can distinguish the world in the TV and reality, but the children take it in and it becomes their common sense.
返信削除I think when people especially children watch sports, cartoons, or video games that show violence, I think it impacts them a lot. Like I feel like when a child watches too much violence, the child might think its alright to use that violence in real life. I don't know how violence can't impact people.
